Val de Vie
This was our first project in the well known Val de Vie polo estate. Leonhard Jonas the MD of Guardian Projects gave us the opportunity to design their house. The estate guidelines, site, climate and brief made it a challenging exercise. We felt the design required an element to act as a ‘backbone’ around which spaces could attach, link and interact. Something strong yet simple that would give clarity to the flow and bring a bit of a ‘wow’ factor into the home. A series of 5 arches was constructed on the North-South axis inviting guest into the heart of the home, giving access to the top storey, dividing spaces and finally leading the eye to the view on Paarl Mountain. The design became a contemporary interpretation of the more classical French guidelines of the estate. The biggest compliment however is the client’s comment that it is a lovely home to live in now!
